Are you being held accountable?

Accountability is one huge way that you can move towards your health and fitness goals (or any other goal for that matter).  Basically it is a way of keeping you honest and making sure that you are working towards your aims.  With fitness being accountable is a key in achieving your objectives - here are some simple ways you can hold yourself accountable.

Group fitness classes...

I love group fitness for many reasons, but primarily it is for the sense of community that they create among the clients that attend them.  The banter, the laughs, working towards similar goals, it all helps to create a community of people looking in the same direction.  There are also a group of people who will keep you honest and encourage you to get your training sessions in, even when you don't necessarily feel like it.

Make your goals public...

Announce your goals publicly.  This doesn't mean take out an advertisement in the local newspaper, just tell someone who will be genuinely interested in helping you achieve them.
A friend, work colleague, relative - someone who will regularly ask for updates on how it is all going.  This will ensure you continue to work towards your goals even if you have bad days (which 9 times out of 10 will happen - fitness is never a straight line in terms of improvement).  You don't have to Instagram your every meal - just make a public statement.

Apps...

Apps do not work for everyone - I know some people who could think of nothing worse than logging every meal into an app.  But they works for others - for those people it can be a visual reminder of what they are working towards, or of how they are tracking on a particular day or week.  Personally I love myfitnesspal and the way it's integrated with other apps like mapmyrun to include your exercise in your daily diary.

These are some of my favourite ways to stay accountable, but as with all of fitness advice - it has to work for you to make it worthwhile.  You need to find what works for you and do that, there is no one size fits all when it comes to fitness.

I would love to hear how you stay accountable so please comment and let me know!
